Sitcom Plot Booklet
A sitcom, or situation comedy, is a short, funny weekly television episode. Some popular examples are iCarly, Better Off Ted, and How I Met Your Mother. Sitcoms contain all the plot elements we’ve been studying. Watching a sitcom will be an entertaining way to apply these skills!
Assignment:

  • Watch the appropriate sitcom of your choice. (If you have access to a DVR, you may want to record the episode. That way you can rewind and replay as needed while working on your assignment.)

  • Create a plot booklet for your sitcom using the information included.

  • Booklet should be made from 2 pieces of plain paper folded in half and stapled along the fold


Introductory Information (title for front page):

    1. Title of sitcom (capitalize all important words and underline)

    2. Illustration

    3. MLA heading in top left corner (name, teacher/class, date)

Exposition (title for page two):

  1. Illustration to show where and when the story takes place)

  2. Write a paragraph describing the setting in detail (use imagery)

  3. 1 to 2 sentences explaining how the setting affects the plot

Characters (title for page three):

  1. Identify at least two main characters

  2. Draw each character

  3. Write at least one sentence describing each character’s personality

Conflict (title for page four):

  1. Write a brief paragraph describing the conflict (main problem) in this episode.

  2. Include an illustration that highlights this conflict.

Rising Action (title for page five):

  1. Choose one significant event from the rising action.

  2. Illustrate this event

  3. Include a caption that describes the event and explains why it’s important to the plot.


Climax (title for page six):

  1. Identify the high point of action (when the problem seemed at its worst).

  2. Include an illustration and descriptive caption.

  3. Explain in one or two sentences what you were thinking or feeling at this point.

Falling Action (title for page seven):

  1. Choose one significant event from the falling action.

  2. Illustrate this event

  3. Include a caption that describes the event and explains why it’s important to the plot.

Resolution (title for page eight):

  1. Write a brief paragraph that explains how the conflict was resolved in this episode.

  2. Include an illustration and descriptive caption.

  3. Write a sentence discussing what you believe the theme (life lesson) of this episode was.
