|Purpose: To inform my audience (a small indie-rock band) about Ground Zero (GZ), a small concert venue in upstate New York, and to convince them to perform at this venue during one of their tours.
Audience: My audience is an indie artist named “Why?” who tours with a band of four people. Why? Is an established artist in the indie community, who receives enough show offers that he can pick and choose his tour dates.
-He knows a lot about live sound systems and acoustics from previous tours.
-Touring is very difficult from a financial perspective.
-He knows that housing for four people can be very expensive.
-He knows that most of his fans don’t have a lot of money.
-He knows that many small clubs’ sound systems are not compatible with some of his less common musical equipment (samplers, turntables etc.)
-He knows where Albany is located (but not Troy).
-He has never really heard of Troy.
-He knows that college shows have large audiences.
-His biggest concerts in the Northeast are usually in NYC and Boston
-He makes his living from his music.
-He wants to make money on tour (or at least break even).
-He wants to save money on tour, however he can.
-He wants to play concerts for lots of people.
-He wants to make a good impression on as many people who are unfamiliar with his music as possible.
-He wants to play for tolerant audiences, since he is somewhat experimental
-He wants to sell as much merchandise as he can.
-He wants to sound good live.
-He wants to play shows that are close to each other (geographically).
-He only wants to play venues that are compatible with his equipment.
-He is a full time musician, therefore he is going to want read something somewhat professional sounding, since his livlihood depends on these concerts. However, he will not want to read something that is too stuffy.
-He is currently planning a tour of the Northeast.
-He has open dates around Boston and New York.
-This is his first tour with a full band; therefore, it will be somewhat more expensive due to increased housing and equipment rental.
Criteria That Matter To My Audience:
-Money (the amount he will receive for performing)
-Closeness to other concert venues on his tour
-High-Quality equipment (High-wattage PA speakers that sound good, equally good stage monitors, a system that is compatible with his special equipment.)
-Good acoustics (sounds travels well throughout the room and doesn’t get too loud and/or “muddy”)
-Large tolerant audiences with people that have never experience his music before.
-What kind of concerts does GZ usually put on? Who has played there in the past?
-What kind of equipment does GZ use for it’s sound system (PA, monitors, mixing board, snake), and is it compatible with his equipment?
-How much do they usually pay touring bands?
-How close is Troy to big cities like Boston and New York?
-How many people on average are there at a (GZ) concert?
