Diagnostics:

Evergreen shrub or small tree up to 10 m high; branchlets slightly angular and hairy. Leaves: light green, thick, hairy below, ovate to oblong-elliptic, veins fewer and not as deeply impressed as P. guajava. Flowers: white, in groups of 1-3, October-December. Fruits: -none; P. X durbanensis is a sterile hybrid (P. guajava X P. guineense), spreading by suckering.

Roadsides, wasteland, in the vicinity of Durban and the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.
